Torquay Front Beach

Torquay Front Beach

Torquay Front Beach is a favourite family hotspot, with large grassed areas for picnics and BBQs, as well as a sheltered bay with calm waters for swimming. The beach fronts the town centre and is equipped with numerous facilities, including toilets and change rooms, BBQs, water fountains, playgrounds and more.

The natural amphitheatre of the grass slopes overlooks the blue expanse of the bay with clear views of the Point Danger cliffs. The ANZAC day ceremony at Point Danger is the second largest dawn service in Victoria, partly due to the similarities between the Point Danger cliffs and those at Gallipoli.

Home to the Danger Ocean Swim Series, this picturesque location is perfect for swimmers, stand up paddle boarders and the whole family. There is also fantastic snorkeling on offer at the Point Danger Marine Sanctuary during low swells.

Torquay Front Beach is a mix of a timeshare dog friendly area and no dogs area. For more information about dog friendly beaches, visit the Surf Coast Shire website.

Environmental volunteer groups in the region

A key volunteer group in Torquay, Torquay Coast Action was formed in 1995 to tackle the invasive woody weeds and rejuvenate the sparse land from Point Impossible to Point Danger. Torquay Coast Action provides knowledge building opportunities and hands on participation to improve coastal environments.

After volunteering with the Jan Juc Coast Action group, founder Glenda Shomaly decided to start environmental working bees at the eastern end of Torquay, tackling popular Torquay sites including the Deep Creek river mouth, Voss’s Car Park, and Horseshoe Bend Road.

Major revegetation and woody weed removal works have transformed the sites to be high habitat zones for native wildlife.

Meetings | Fourth Sunday of every month (except January) at a pre-arranged location along the coast at 10:00am.
Contact | Glenda Shomaly on 5261 6266.
